MINT facilitates the aggregation of rich and divergent cultural heritage metadata. It is employed from the first steps of such workflows, corresponding to the ingestion, mapping and aggregation of metadata records, and proceeds to implement a variety of remediation approaches for the resulting repository. Bojnice Castle: ATHENA and EuropeanaLocal Conference : Muzeum Collections and Digitization

Ministry of Culture together with Slovak National Museum organized two-day conference devoted to projects ATHENA and EuropeanaLocal and the main activites linked to digitisation of cultural heritage and their links to Europeana. On the workshops were presented the concept of a single knowledge system which is based on advanced information technologies applied to the specific needs of the museums. Workshops were organized in 6 sections: Mandatory documentation collections, Automating collections management, Knowledge system of museums, 2D visualization, 3D visualization and Postproduction with demonstration.

Brussels: Europeana and the digital disclosure of cultural heritage

Organised PACKED (Athena project), Royal Museums of Art and History (Athena project), Erfgoedplus (EuropeanaLocal project), Flemish government — Arts and Heritage, SIST-DWTI.

Targeted to People from the cultural heritage sector (museums, libraries, archives) with a specific interest in digitisation, access and interoperability of data (standards, aggregation), Europeana and European digitisation projects.

Belgium is presently involved in several digitisation projects funded by the European commission in order to help build and deliver content to the Europeana portal. With this conference the Belgian Athena and EuropeanaLocal partners wish to bring their involvement in these projects to the attention of the Belgian cultural heritage organisations to inform them on how to use and give better access to their digital content trough the Europeana portal by participating in such projects

Abstract: Oggi, il settore della didattica è in rapida evoluzione grazie alle possibilità offerte dai servizi pedagogici innovativi nel settore del digitale. Nuove piattaforme educative, così come la smaterializzazione di strumenti e risorse offrono nuove opportunità di sviluppo di contenuti culturali digitalizzati con fini didattici. Attraverso questo workshop, l'Associazione europea Michael Culture intende esplorare alcune buone pratiche, quali l'apprendimento creativo e l'apprendimento basato sul gioco (GBL), proponendo presentazioni di progetti concreti e stimolando il dibattito su punti di forza e debolezze, tendenze attuali e sviluppi futuri.

Il workshop, aperto a tutti previa registrazione, è destinato a insegnanti, professionisti nel campo del patrimonio culturale digitale, professionisti dell'educazione, agenzie e centri di ricerca che operano per lo sviluppo di servizi innovativi nel campo della didattica.

Abstract: Today, the education sector is evolving quickly thanks to the possibilities offered by Digital Pedagogical Innovative Services. New educational platforms as well as the dematerialization of tools and resources offer new opportunities for developing educational uses for digitised cultural content. Through this workshop, Michael Culture wishes to focus on new practices such as creative learning and game based learning (GBL), proposing concrete project presentations, stimulating debate concerning their strengths and weaknesses, current tendencies and future development.

Its main target group being professionals within the field of digital cultural heritage, education professionals as well as agencies and research centres working on the development of Innovative Services in education.

San Francisco: International Linked Open Data in Libraries, Archives, and Museums Summit (LOD-LAM)

The International Linked Open Data in Libraries, Archives, and Museums Summit (LOD-LAM) will be held in San Francisco on 2-3 June 2011.

LOD-LAM will convene leaders in their respective areas of expertise from the humanities and sciences to catalyse practical and actionable approaches to publishing Linked Open Data, specifically:

Identify the tools and techniques for publishing and working with Linked Open Data.
Draft precedents and policy for licensing and copyright considerations regarding the publishing of library, archive, and museum metadata.

Publish definitions and promote use cases that will give LAM staff the tools they need to advocate for Linked Open Data in their institutions.

Applications open on 1 February. Limited travel grants will be available. The tag for the event is #lodlam.

L'ultima parte del workshop prenderà in esame, nell'ambito del progetto Indicate, l'uso delle e-Infrastructures per il patrimonio culturale digitale nei paesi mediterranei. Verrà infine presentata in anteprima la bozza di Linee guida per la realizzazione di mostre virtuali sul web.

Abstract in English

The event is an opportunity to learn and discuss about current issues and projects on access to digitized cultural heritage online.

The following topics will be examined: the state of the art of Europeana and some European projects aiming at aggregating digital cultural content for Europeana (Athena, EuropeanaLocal, Judaica Europeana); CulturaItalia role in this scenario; the problems related to online digital content and rights management; new opportunities offered by linked open data.

The last part of the workshop will be dedicated, in the framework of the Indicate project, to the use of e-Infrastructures for the digital cultural heritage in the Mediterranean countries. Finally, a draft of guidelines for the creation of virtual online exhibitions will be introduced.

The workshop presents outputs of two projects MICHAEL & ATHENA. ATHENA, a Network of Best Practice within the e-Contentplus Programme, takes its origins from the existing MINERVA network and brings together relevant stakeholders and content owners from museums and other cultural institutions all over Europe. MICHAEL & MICHAEL+ there are two eTEN projects dealing with multilingual inventory of digital
cultural collections implementation in Europe.

ATHENA is working on the existing standards harmonization, and promotion by a wider public, taking into consideration the cross-domain perspective of Europeana, and the national culture portals. ATHENA developed an ingestion tool specific for museums but also flexible enough for the integration of digital objects at libraries and archives. This software based on LIDO (Lightweight Information Describing Objects) will be used to present the metadata transfer to Europeana. This harvesting format is now proposed
to become a reference model for the integration of museum digital content in a crossdomain
perspective. LIDO is a real European outcome since it was elaborated by a core group of experts in the field that includes people who developed the CIDOC CRM standards.
During the workshop it will be also presented the Guidelines for geographic location of ccultural content which is a part of ATHENA project tasks (D7.2 - Guidelines for Geographic Location Description - Adds: Possible GIS Models - Videos).

It will be discussed goals of GIS in digital cultural content, basic terms of GIS, and Geographic information in standards concerning digital cultural content.

The workshop addressed for museums, libraries, archives and other cultural institutions and to the institutions interested in promoting their collections worldwide.

It is intended especially to the professionals interested in harmonization, integration of metadata and thesauri, and those who are introducing or plan to introduce geographic information system (GIS).
The aim of this workshop is to demonstrate ways in which European museums can participate in Europeana with or without mediation of aggregators. This will be presented on a base of the ATHENA project achievements.

The European Congress on E-Inclusion 2010: ‘Delivering Digital Europe in Public Libraries' is an official conference organised by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, taking place on 20th and 21st September at the Flemish Parliament in Brussels.

Hosted by the Flemish Community in association with Civic Agenda, the conference is a follow up to the inaugural European Congress on E-Inclusion (ECEI09), "Technology and Beyond in Public Libraries", which took place in October 2009.

Key partners supporting this event include the European Union; the Europeana Office, Bibnet, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Telecentres Europe, Eblida (the European Bureau of Library Information and Documentation associations), and NAPLE (the forum of National Authorities for Public Libraries in Europe).

The conference e-Infrastructures for Cultural Heritage will take place in the Royal Library of Belgium in Brussels on the 29th of October 2010. This event of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union is organised by the Scientific and Technical Information Service (STIS) in the context of Belgian Science Policy's participation in the Digital Cultural Heritage ERANET Network (ERANET DC-NET), a project co-funded by the FP7 specific programme Capacities/Research Infrastructures of the EU.

ERANET DC-NET aims to explore how e-infrastructures could contribute to the development of new cultural services, and to establish a joint programme of research priorities with all stakeholders, for the digital cultural heritage sector.

The conference aims to reach representatives from the cultural sector, ICT and research, and cultural and science policy. The full programme can be found on http://www.dc-net.be. All presentations will be in English
(simultaneous translation into Dutch and French will be available).

This National ATHENA workshop in Lithuania will be held 22 June, 2010 in the Lithuanian Art Museum (Boksto Str. 5, Vilnius).

Representatives from all Lithuanian museums are invited to participate in the workshop and to find out what ATHENA is and what are the possibilities to join the network and upload museum content to Europeana.

The workshop is organized by the branch of Lithuanian Art Museum Lithuanian Museums' Centre for Information, Digitization and LIMIS.
